New WW2 World War II US Army D Day Normandy Invasion Assault Vest Tweedie
CollectionHero
Authentic WW2 World War II US Army D Day Normandy Invasion Assault Vest by Tweedie. This is 100% guaranteed to be a period correct World War II authentic US military issued D-Day assault vest. Size Medium. Structurally sound, used piece being sold in as found condition. It does have the odor of typical long term storage. SEE ALL 24 PHOTOS FOR CONDITION. If you can see it in the photos, it is considered described. Sold in as is condition. All sales final. No returns. Authenticity is the only guarantee. The Assault Vest (sometimes called "Invasion Vests) was a short lived item issued specifically for the Normandy operation. The US Army had tested various configurations of such gear based on the British Commando vests in late 1943. A design was approved and rushed into production in early 1944 so that it would be available for the invasion. In May 1944, limited numbers were issued to troops of the 1st, 4th, and 29th Infantry Divisions as well as the 2nd Ranger Battalion. They proved hot, heavy and impractical and it appears that most had been discarded ("lost") within a month of the landings. I believe that the latest known period photo to show one is use was taken in early July 1944 during the breakout battles. They were not a popular item with the troops.Today, original examples are very rare and one of, if not the most expensive item of US WWIl military equipment as they are specific to the D-day Landings. The majority one encounters are were never issued or worn. The vests were made by several different contractors J A Shoe, Tweedie and Harian in both OD#3 (the famous "khaki") and OD#7 canvas.US SHIPPING IS A FLAT RATE OF $14.95. WW2 US Army Air Force A-2 Pilot Jacket Painted Patches & Officer Crusher Cap Hat
CollectionHero
Payment | Shipping WW2 US Army Air Force Pilot Jacket w/Painted Patches & Officer Crusher Cap Hat I am privileged to offer a WWII A-2 US Army Air Force pilot jacket and included the Officer's crusher cap. All patches but his name patch are hand painted including the rare 498th Bombardment Squadron "Falcons" insignia. The left side has the hand painted "Air Apaches" insignia and the right arm has the Army Air Force insignia. The label reads: Type A-2 Drawing No. 30-141 AC No.535..2919 Property Air Force-U.S. Army Bronc Mfg. Corp. New York, N.Y. The size is 44. Armpit to armpit is 21"; shoulder to cuff is 25" and top of collar to waistband is 27". The zipper is a "Crown" which operates, as do all the snaps and hook at neck. The leather sewn name tag reads: R. L. Ranger. Lt. Richard L Ranger served his country in World War II. Born in Swampscott, MA. in 1927. He entered the service in 1943, attended pre-flight school in Santa Ana, Ca., Class 44-E; primary at Dos Palos, Ca.; basic at Lemoore, Ca.; advances at LaJunta, Co. and combat a Greenville, So. Carolina. Ranger served with the 345th Bombardment Group "Air Apaches" and the 498th Bomb Squadron and 5th Bomb Squadron January 1945-August 1945. He was a B-25 "Staafers Pilot". On one of his missions, his plane was struck by enemy fire on a low-level mission over Formosa and with only one engine he flew back to the Philippines with an overheated engine and crashed on the runway with "wheel up" and no injuries. He was discharged in January, 1946, and was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two OLC's. The "C" is a miniature bronze "C" that can be attached to the Air Medal. It is authorized for the following reasons: Being exposed to hostile action or under significant risk of it and performing exceptionally meritorious service or achievement under combat conditions. There is much published information and history about the 345th Bomb Group 5th "Air Apaches"/498th Bomb Squadrons. Please explore the internet for their brave and harrowing missions. The jacket is as it was found. I have not applied any kind of leather conditioner or cleaner, leaving that to the decision of the new owner. Please use the photos as more detailed description. The leather is not torn or ripped. The cuffs are worn but the waist band is very acceptable. The lining shows some staining and is loose at the top by the collar. The bonus part of this auction is the original hat of Lt. Richard L Ranger. The hat badge is a screw back Lieutenant badge. The hat is a bit miss-shapened by poor storage. The bill has a bend; a large part of the leather hat band is missing as well as one of the buttons. There are a few small moth holes in the body of the hat. Inside there is a dried substance that appears to be melted nylon. No odors but definitely is a issue with the interior of the original cap, does not show on the exterior. I DO NOT END AUCTIONS EARLY. I ship the day after I receive payment unless it is a weekend or Holiday. Please use the close up feature to examine item in detail. Please read the next paragraph. I advise all bidders to view and enlarged photos for a close, more detailed view of the item and read text BEFORE you bid. You get what you see in the photos ! If you have a question, ask it ! Rare WWII John Ek Fighting Knife #7 with original WW2 modified M6 Sheath
CollectionHero
Up for auction is an original John Ek HAMDEN STYLE 7 fighting knife. This example has a 7 inch Spear Point, Full Tang Blade; With Steel Guard; Nickel-Chrome Moly Steel; Both Edges Sharpened; Standard Type Wide Handle with Poured Lead Rivets; an earlier model and does not have Extended Tang; Lanyard Hole in Handle; There is appropriate aging and wear to the metal, sheath and wood grips. The Style 7 is basically a Style 2 with a guard. Probably made for those GIs who wanted a double edged knife that wouldn't allow a wet or slippery hand to slide forward onto the blade under a forceful thrust. The knife has the remains of the JOHN EK blade stamp, and a clear serial number stamp 7D2 92, a steel guard, large diameter lead rivets and a wrist lanyard hole. Serial 7D2 92 = Style #7 (D=4000) 292 So, this is a Style #7 knife and the 4,292nd knife produced by the John Ek factory.(But feel free to do your own research )IMPORTANT: In the example above, note that the example knife 7D292 was the 4292nd. Ek knife produced, not the 4292nd. Style 7 knife produced. Contrary to some claims, there were not separate serial number sets for each Hamden knife style. There was just one continuous serial numbering system for all Hamden models. e.g. If a model 4 was made right after a style 1 with a serial number 1B135, the style 4 would be stamped 4B136. The highest Hamden stamped serial number I've observed is a style 1 serial R273. R273 indicates only 18,273 knives. Plus there are an unknown number of knives without serial numbers. So rather than the estimate that over 100,000 Hamden knives were produced, it was probably less than 30,000.The knife comes in the leather it was found with (not the original John Ek Sheath), it is in a "modified" original 1943 stamped M6 leather sheath made by L.J Barwood & Co. who made 29,000 M6 sheaths during WWII. L.J arwood was one of six manufacturers producing M6 sheaths for the army. This example has een modified for use with the John Ek fighting knife, the upper part of the sheath has een removed as was fashionable amongst paratroopers.A little about John Ek and his knives.John Ek wanted to contribute to the American war effort during World War II. From his shop in Hamden, Connecticut, Ek built custom knives specifically for soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. He even built a knife for the Commander in Chief American President Franklin Roosevelt. Mr. Ek, who also employed disabled Americans, produced six models of knives beginning in 1941. He referred to these knives as “Ek Commando Knives” as they were purpose built for close quarter use that would become a hallmark of the US Marine Raiders, US Army Rangers, First Special Service Force, and Office of Strategic Services’ Operational Groups. To purchase an Ek Commando Knife one had to send in proof of military service. The knives were numbered and a log was kept to tie the number to the owner. Americans have carried Ek Commando Knives in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and countless other locations in between. John Ek’s knives live on today through Ek Commando Knife as a testament to his ideas, skills, and unflinching patriotism. All info on this aution was pulled from the internet from two collector pages. It is easily verifiable by doing a search for WWII John Ek fighting knife.Good Luck! (Condition: Pre-Owned)

eBay WWII Patch Blanket WWII Patch Blanket w/241 Patches many RARE Up for auction is a very nice WWII era patch blanket that I picked up at an estate auction. WWII World War II 89 Bulletins from USS Enterprise 1941-1942 ORIGINAL
CollectionHero
For sale as a set are 89 mimeographed bulletins that were circulated aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, an aircraft carrier in the Pacific, early in World War II.These documents consist of Battle Orders, War Information Bulletins, daily plans, compilations of press reports, and miscellaneous documents such as poems that were circulated to the ship's personnel. Most are War Information Bulletins, which provided the sailors with daily reports on the Enterprise's travels and activities along with a short account of the progress of the war elsewhere. The War Information Bulletins contain the (mimeographed) signature of T.P. Jeter, Commander, U.S. Navy, Executive Officer. These documents are historically significant. There is a Battle Order from November 28, 1941, the week BEFORE Pearl Harbor, informing the sailors that they were now operating under war conditions. There is a first-hand account of a battle on Wake Island. There are administrative directives issued in the days following Pearl Harbor. The reader can see the progress of the first three months of World War II in the Pacific through the eyes of a sailor on the Enterprise. Four of the documents predate Pearl Harbor. The remainder start immediately after Pearl Harbor (December 8, 1941 - the next day) and continue through March 8, 1942.Date-wise, they break down as follows:Pre war: September 24, 1941 through December 2, 1941 -- four documents December 8 - 30, 1941 -- 19 documents January 3 - 31, 1942 -- 29 1 - 29, 1942 -- 20 documentsMarch 1 - 8, 1942 -- 10 documents Undated -- 7 documents. (3 of those appear to be continuations of other documents.)The bulletins are in nice condition. Many have a staple in the upper left-hand corner or a perforation where a staple was removed. Most have no fold marks. Some of the corners are crimped. Many of the documents are in plastic sleeves; others are in plastic bags; a few have no covering. SEE PHOTOS!USS Enterprise (CV-6) was a Yorktown-class carrier built for the United States Navy during the 1930s. She was the seventh U.S. Navy vessel of that name. Colloquially called "The Big E", she was the sixth aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. Launched in 1936, she was the only Yorktown-class and one of only three American fleet carriers commissioned before World War II to survive the war (the others being Saratoga and Ranger. She participated in more major actions of the war against Japan than any other United States ship. These actions included the attack on Pearl Harbor — 18 Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers of her air group arrived over the harbor during the attack; seven were shot down with eight airmen killed and two wounded, making her the only American aircraft carrier with men at Pearl Harbor during the attack and the first to sustain casualties during the Pacific War— the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, various other air-sea engagements during the Guadalcanal Campaign, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Enterprise earned 20 battle stars, the most for any U.S. warship in World War II, and was the most decorated U.S. ship of World War II. She was also the first American ship to sink a full-sized enemy warship after the Pacific War had been declared when her aircraft sank the Japanese submarine I-70 on 10 December 1941. On three occasions during the war, the Japanese announced that she had been sunk in battle, inspiring her nickname "The Grey Ghost". By the end of the war, her planes and guns had downed 911 enemy planes, sunk 71 ships, and damaged or destroyed 192 more.Note: Our father was an officer in the Army medical corps who treated many World War II veterans. He also supported and assisted a group of former POWs. He collected many original documents from World War II, many of which we have sold on eBay. This set is one of the most interesting and historically significant Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years.
