ATTENTION, REGARDING SHIPPING. Due to the fragile nature of the Hawley liner I have typically shipped these in double boxes, ie: the liner goes inside a box packed by itself, that box is packed inside a larger box and the steel shell is packed outside the smaller box (seperate from the liner), but inside the larger box. This obviously incurs higher shipping costs, but ensures safe delivery of these fragile liners in my limited experience. If you wish to try your luck with the smaller, most commonly used for M1 helmets box I can pack it liner inside shell into a USPS large box (12x12x8.5). I am confident in my packing abilities, my feedback shows this. I am, however, hesitant to gamble on how well USPS will treat this particular package. I am also open to other options if a potential buyer wishes to make some other arrangement regarding the packing of the helmet. But please, if you wish to explore other shipping options please contact me BEFORE bidding. Up for bid is a WWII fixed bale, front seam M1 steel helmet with a 3rd pattern Hawley fiber liner.McCord steel shell is intact with use/storage wear. No stress cracks or dents, maybe one very minor dimple on the dome, can't get a picture of it and can barely feel it. Long chinstrap is very frayed, but still intact. Short chinstrap is good. Chinstraps have early cast brass hardware. Light surface rust throughout, please see photos. Lot/lift number under brim reads "498?7". The "7" is my best guess, as typicallythere would be a letter as opposed to a number in that spot and it is very hard to read. The 400 series lot number as well as the tic marks/dimples on the rim over the bale indicate early production. Original factory paint is mostly intact, please see photos.Liner is a 3rd pattern Hawley. Single herringbone twill, OD3 webbing is all intact. All hardware is unpainted steel, A washers, chinstrap studs, etc. Liner looks to have been repaired in three spots along the rim by the previous owner. I've included closeup photos of all three repair spots. Chinstrap is cracked, but intact and still soft. It is of late war manufacture with United Carr stamped hardware made of blackened brass. Chinstrap buckle shows patent number stamped underneath. The sweatband is an early/mid war produced double wire variation with AM Stay Co manufacturer's markings. Appears to have been cut shorter than it was issued. Leather is cracked, but still soft and intact. Nape strap has steel hardware and is manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, as is the webbing, indicated by the "J&J" inked markings on both. Please ask all questions request all photos BEFORE bidding. I am happy to accommodate all photo requests and try to answer all questions requests in a timely manner. Thank you for checking out my auction. (Condition: Pre-Owned)
